Dan Ablan is president of AGA Digital Studios, Inc., a 3D animation and visual effects company, which has produced 3D animation for clients including United Airlines, NASA, and AC Nielsen. He is also founder of 3DGarage.com, a Web site dedicated to 3D training. Dan has been involved in the visual arts since 1982 and is the author of ten books on computer graphics and animation.

Where do you call home?
Lake Zurich, Illinois — it's a suburb of Chicago
If you didn't work in the tech field, what would your dream job be?
Perhaps a candy maker, well, maybe just a candy taster.
First job after you finished school?
Photographer / Editor for WLFI-TV, the CBS affiliate in Lafayette, IN. Yee-ha!
Childhood hero?
Spiderman. Or maybe Fonzie.
Xbox or PlayStation?
I have them both. My 8-year-old has taken possession. I no longer play.
Favorite video game?
Let me ask the keeper of the console and get back to you.
Childhood ambition or what did you want to be when you grew up?
First, a pilot — then, I found out that planes crash. Then, an architect, but I found out there was math involved. So, I really wanted to be a pro photographer for Time Life or National Geographic.
Why write a book for Sybex?
Why not! Actually, we had been talking for a while about a photography book, which is something I've always wanted to do. Then one hot summer, the moon and stars aligned and it happened . . . the book, that is.
One interesting thing you learned while writing your book?
Never agree to write three books at once. It leads to chest pains.
