Wiley to Acquire Sybex

Hoboken, N.J., May 11, 2005 — John Wiley & Sons, Inc. (NYSE:JWa) (NYSE:JWb), announced today that it has signed an agreement to acquire Sybex Inc., a publisher of computer books and software based in Alameda, California. The terms of the purchase, which is scheduled to close by the end of the month, were not disclosed.

Sybex has been a leading publisher for the global Information Technology professional community for nearly 30 years. Known for high quality publications that are translated into more than 20 languages, Sybex publishes about 100 new titles a year and has a backlist of approximately 450 titles in the graphics, digital photography, operating systems, programming, and gaming categories. The company enjoys a strong presence in the area of IT and Business certifications and has close relationships with a number of leading technology companies, including Alias, Microsoft, and Juniper. Notable titles include Mark Minasi's best-selling Mastering Windows Server 2003 and Todd Lammle's CCNA Certification Kit. Sybex's 2004 revenue was over $10 million.
