About the Exams
Candidates who want to become an MCDBA must take a total of 4 exams. One exam covers administering SQL Server (either version 7 or 2000), one exam covers how to design a SQL Server database architecture, one exam covers administering Microsoft Server. The last exam must be taken from a list of electives. For more information on the exams and requirements, click on the Exam Chart and Sybex Products link.
A Note about Windows XP and .NET Server
Microsoft has recently released Windows XP, and has announced plans to release Windows .NET Server, which will be an option instead of the Administering Windows 2000 Server exam. For more information on the new exams, visit the Microsoft Training & Certification website.
You are not required to take these exams in any particular order. However, each exam focuses on a specific area, so it may make sense to take the two SQL exams in a row.
Depending on which exam you take, your test may have between 50 and 70 questions, and you'll have from 1 to 4 hours to take it. The questions will either be multiple choice, select and place, or simulations. For more information on the different question types, visit the Microsoft Training & Certification website.
